Title: Introduction to Neurogenic Communication Disorders

Catalog Copy: CDIS 244W, Introduction to neurogenic Communication Disorders, First semester, 3 credits, Acquired and developmental neurogenic communication disorders. Brain mechanisms that underlie speech and language and their disorders.

W Criteria: Each student will write a research paper of at least 15 pages. Topics will be selected by students, with approval of instructor, and pertain to an aspect of neurogenic communication disorders (e.g., traumatic brain injury in athletes, surgical interventions for Parkinson's Disease, dementia secondary to chronic alcohol abuse). This requirement will enable students to research and develop a topic of interest related to the course content. Papers will undergo a minimum of two revisions for conceptual clarity, organization, topic development, grammar and spelling. Feedback regarding preliminary drafts of the paper will be provided during individual meetings with the course instructor. Students cannot pass this course without passing the writing assignment.
