Title: Speech and Language Acquisition

Catalog Copy: CDIS 202W, Speech and Language Acquisition, First semester, 3 credits, How children learn their first language, the effects of language on their thinking and behavior.

W Criteria: -Each student will write a research paper of at least 15 pages. Topics will be selected by students, with approval of instructor, and pertain to an aspect of speech/language development (e.g., development of conversational skills, the effect of otitis media on speech/language development, development of “wh” questions). This requirement will enable students to research and develop a topic of interest related to the course content. Papers will undergo a minimum of two revisions for conceptual clarity, organization, topic development, grammar and spelling. Feedback regarding preliminary drafts of the paper will be provided during individual meetings with the course instructor. Students cannot pass this course without passing the writing assignment.
