Catalog Copy:ANSC 297W Undergraduate Honors Thesis Writing in Animal Science. Either semester. One credit. Hours by arrangement. Prerequisite: Three credits of ANSC 299 which may be taken concurrently; ENGL 110 or 111. Open only with consent of instructor.

Writing of a formal thesis based on independent research conducted by the student. Thesis proposal and final thesis must follow guidelines developed by the department.

W Criteria :

Addition of this course will provide an opportunity for an advanced honors student in Animal Science to receive credit for writing a thesis that is a result of advanced work as part of an honors research project. The thesis writing will help prepare students for graduate school.

The course will strengthen the Department's curriculum by encouraging honors students to conduct and complete their honors research project.

ANSC 297W - Undergraduate Honors Thesis Writing in Animal Science Syllabus

Credits: 1 credit

Schedule: Either semester. Hours by arrangement.

Prerequisite: Consent of instructor. Three credits of ANSC 299 which may be taken concurrently; ENGL 110 or 111 and completion of an additional 12 credits of ANSC 200 level courses.

Course Description:

The thesis must follow guidelines established by the instructor. Those guidelines include style of thesis and minimum length of 30 pages not including appendices. The student will submit drafts at appropriate intervals to allow for review and feedback by the instructor. The thesis shall be written in a technical/scientific style. Sections should include topics such as: Objectives, Hypothesis, Experimental Design, Literature Review, Results of the Study, Discussion and Summary and Conclusions as appropriate.

Course Grading:

The course grade will be based on specific criteria set forth by the instructor that will include originality, content, organization, technical writing ability, and overall quality of the thesis. Failure to complete an acceptable thesis meeting the minimal requirements will result in an "F" for the course
