General Education Course Approval Process

Wonder how General Education courses are approved at UConn? Below is a summary of the approval process for all General Education courses.

Course Approval Sequence for General Education Courses

School/College C&C* »»
GEOC** »»
Senate C&C »»
Senate

* Once approved by the School/College C&CC, the departmental C&C contact must complete the Senate Curriculum Action Request (CAR) Form located on our home page. Once submitted via the web CAR form, it will be received by GEOC and Senate C&CC.
** GEOC approval includes two levels of review: (1) GEOC subcommittee approval, and (2) full GEOC approval.

For a more detailed sequence chart, please click here.

GEOC is tasked with reviewing courses only after they have received department and college-level approval, which can be a lengthy process. In order for GEOC to review courses in time for the November catalog copy deadline, GEOC needs to receive proposals by September 1st. Please note that some proposals are sent back for revision; this prolongs the approval process.
